Prior to its separation as a district from Bharatpur, Dholpur was known as an industrially backward city. It did not possess many major industries or abundant resources for industrial development. Since, its formation as separate district, though, it has shown some signs of promising development in this sphere.



The district has excellent infrastructure backed by planned growth from local administration. The rich mineral deposits in Dholpur have also propelled growth of local industries in the district. Major Small Scale Industries in Dholpur

Agri Based Industries - There are 291 agro based industries in Dholpur district offering employment to more than 1800 workers.

Forest Based Industries - Due to dense network of forests, the district has about 338 units in this sector with work force of more than 950 employees.

Mineral Based Industries - The abundance of minerals in Dholpur has given boost to these industries totaling around 527 units having work force of 2998 employees.

Textiles and Handlooms - With work force of more than 680 employees, Dholpur has about 200 textile/handloom units.

Engineering Based Industries - In the recent years, engineering based industries have also increased in this district with around 280 units having work force of more than 2000 employees.

Animal and Livestock Based Industries - The district of Dholpur also has such industries totaling around 180 with employees strength of more than 650.

M/s. Rajasthan Explosive & Chemicals Ltd., Dholpur (RECL)

This huge industry is engaged in production of materials for explosives, detonating fuse, boosters, and detonators for industries in mining sector. It provides employment to more than 400 people. RECL has production capacity of approx. 27, 500 metric tonnes per year.

M/s Bhole Baba milk Food Industries Ltd., Dholpur

This company is engaged in manufacturing of dairy products. Desi Ghee, butter, and skimmed milk powder are their primary products. This ISO 9001:2000 and HACCP certified company exports these products to countries like Singapore, Philippines, Egypt, Middle East, Bangladesh, etc. It is providing employment to more than 200 people in its Dholpur plant.

Dholpur Combined Cycle Power Station

Located at a distance of 7 km from district head quarters in Dholpur, this is a gas based thermal power station. This plant is owned and operated by Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd. It has installed capacity of 330 MW distributed in three units that include two gas turbines viz, GT110, GT110, and one steam turbine, ST110. Each of these turbines has installed capacity of 110 MW. The plant has been commissioned with a view to avoid water and environment pollution. As such, it has 70 meter high stack that emanates waste fuel gases in the higher levels of atmosphere.

Dholpur Glass Works:

This unit was established in the year 1944 as proprietary firm. It was made a public limited company in 1945 and in 1956; it commenced production of hospital and laboratory glass wares. It has provided employment to about 900 workers in this unit. This factory uses raw materials like borax, soda ash, dolomite, selenium, feldspar, and black powder. Its other primary product is penicillin vials.
